First up... check out the cool, orange pumpkin bread bowls for the soup at the shower. They looked just like little pumpkins and were actually quite tasty, lil loaves of bread.
All the food was delish! Anne is a fantastic hostess. She pays great attention to detail and put a lot of time and effort into the party. I found out when I got there that Chuck was invited to come as well. There were several guys at the party besides Tyson. Now, if Chuck had known about the great food...No, this isn't a sample of the food! This is from the diaper activity. Angel's sister had "prepared" 13 loaded diapers and the task was to identify the contents. The contents being 13 different candy bars that had been "prepared". And let me tell you some of them were pretty darn authentic looking. Several people were quite determined to succeed and were not above taste testing the load. Tyson got all but 2. I got all but three and am chagrined to admit that one that I missed was the Reese's peanut butter cup. How can I be married to Chuck and miss that one!?!
Angel had lots of help opening gifts. Her nieces were quick to get the gifts and help her open them. In fact they were so into it that a couple of times the gifts got halfway around the circle before she even realized what they they were.
There were a lot of really nice little outfits, her mom made this gorgeous , satin, hand stitched quilt. It has a TON of itty, bitty perfect little stitches on it.
I think they liked the quilt I made. Her nursery theme is "Neverland" and I found a nice flannel with clouds on it and then another with stars. I used a piece of neutral blue with diagonal little crossing lines to tie it together. I quilted around all the clouds and then put some free form quilted stars randomly in between the clouds. It didn't turn out "perfectly". I had a little difficulty with some of the material on the back bunching when I bound it with rick rack. But overall I think it will be serviceable. It's the thought right?
Now as to the aforementioned metal bulletin boards. They traveled in relative comfort and safety in the back of the chuckwagon and Tyson and I put one in the baby's room and took the other to Angel's classroom. All the drilling, driving of screws, and application of metal seems to have paid off... at least so far. Hopefully they'll hold together. Magnets DO indeed stick and they ARE large enough to hold quite a few things. The little knobs are on there to add strength and also should serve quite nicely to hang "stuff" on.

Chuck said I should make them to sell. My hands tell me otherwise. I took some pictures of Angel's classroom but will post them later cause I'm getting tired here and this post is already way too long. I'll just say this - if I had a child in grade school I would want her to be the teacher. She is organized, creative and dedicated. Oh, and it's obvious that she likes the kids and they love her.
And last, but not least, we have Tyson left holding the bag. Check out the baby bottle in his pocket. shades of things to come?!?

I think that blanket looks pretty awesome. If there are flaws, you can't tell from the picture.
Thanks for showing the boards and blanket!
They look great! I have always thought the things you sewed for your kids (and others) were awesome. All those great overalls with trucks on them, cool blankets and wall hangings. No wonder Miss Kelsey has a bug... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Now you didn't mention if the boards were a surprise, a hit, or what. Given the blood, sweat and tears I hope all of the above.
That blanket is sooo cute. You're so crafty Karen. I'm glad you had a good time at the shower and made it to and from UT safely in the infamous Chuckwagon!
The boards were not a surprise, but were anticipated and I think met with approval. Angel is not a gushing type person, but she looked excited to have them and was already making plans to use them. So... a hit.
The blanket looks perfect to me! I love the mix of clouds and stars. I can imagine it in a room where a cloud painting technique for a mural with the clouds painted in cute shapes.
Congratulations!
Wow. Both are great. I think the blanket looks awesome. Wait until I get around to putting up the one I made. It will make you feel like an expert. I love the boards, maybe with some jealousy mixed in, good for you. I also want to tell you that your comments are good for my ego. Thanks and love ya.
You always do amazing work with your quilts. The kids love them to death. At least mine have. Tucker is still attached to the shreds that are left of his. And Cooper's quilt is showing signs of "love" You make awesome quilts but then you do lots of amazing and awesome things!
LOVE the quilt! Good job...quilts are work and can be labors of love. Alec still sleeps with his "baby" quilt every night. Love the magnetic boards...those would be nice to have around. WOW! You're so great....they are lucky to have you!
