So, as I was eating some Kozy Shack tapioca I started thinking about just what it was that makes tapioca so darn good? It's not over the top flavorful, it has a nice smooth texture- but yet wouldn't be right with out the little lumpy bumps (which I guess some folks find disgusting?!?). And yet - it is ohhh so lovely and comforting. I know, a post about tapioca, what next? I think I have a lot of emotion bound up in different foods, their smells, and of course the way they look too. Have you ever stood in front of a pastry counter and just salivated over what is on display, only to buy something, eat it and be disappointed that it wasn't as good as it looked? While Tyson and I were in Hong Kong we kept seeing all these really fantastic looking displays and I kept thinking we should try it - but Tyson said he had been tempted oh so many times, only to purchase and find out they were just downright nasty. No sugar apparently. Anyway, rather than get all philosophical and make a comparison to life and good and evil, let's just say that I find tapioca really tasty and can eat it pretty much anytime - day or night. And since I discovered Kozy Shack and I can get my fix without having to do the cooking for the deceptive "Minute" tapiocca, I am in heaven. Though I do have to say given the choice I would take the homemade minute tapioca still slightly warm with whip cream over Kozy Shack.
Other favorite comfort foods I can eat pretty much anytime : REAL mashed potatoes with chicken gravy, refried beans with sour cream(even better with avocado), and a realative new entrance to the list - oatmeal with craisins and walnuts. It goes without saying that I can founder on pretty much anything that has cream in it's name , cream cheese, cream puffs, whip cream, oh and cheesecake ... Yes, I know cheesecake doesn't have cream in it's name but it IS creamy! and we won't even go into chocolate - So, what are your comfort foods?

Let's see...anything with potatoes. I love them mashed, fried, baked, chip form....also soups. I like to eat cooked, warm food. The Mr. has tried to convince me cold sandwichs are where it is at but it isn't really working. A nice cup of hot choccy (as I call it) hits the spot. Oh yeah and popcorn. Man now I am really hungry!
Mmmmm Kozy shack. A gluten free favorite.
I'm thinking anything I eat these days is comfort food. But I'll try to narrow.
I'm down with oscar on the potatoes, but must say that some good rotisserie chicken is always welcome too. (and thanks to my ebay cheapy baby george rotisserie I can now make one I can eat!)
I can't think of post comfort foods as that does no good.
Oh one more... mom's white fudge!
BTW---tapioca has fish eggs in it and they do make me kinda gag :) Well except my mom had some that looks a lot like the picture and it was good. I guess I ate some that come in the little cups and had a bad experience or maybe my tastes have changed. You have inspired me to buy some Kozy shack and give it another go.
Some of those that come in the cups are No good. But, it does have a bit of the lumpy bumpy thing going on...
Cozy Shack is good Tapioca although I have to admit that I prefer their rice pudding. The best rice pudding I ever at was made by my mission companion from Denmark. Good stuff, but I digress. My favorite food these days is a homemade "salsa" with avocados, corn, black-eyed peas, green onions and some other stuff. Give me some tortilla chips and salsa and I will finish off the bowl. It's healthy, but probably not in the amounts I want to eat! Speaking of cream, I love cream of wheat with actual cream on it (or half/half). Again probably best kept in small amounts. Cream or half/half on Wheaties is pretty tasty too! Agree with C that mom's white fudge is awesome too although I haven't had it for years. I don't even mind the black fudge. Ice cream of any kind? I'm there.
My favorite food is ice cream. I love ice cream. Tapioca is probably second favorite... maybe... maybe first favorite. I don't know.
