Spring Break...

According to the calendar last week was spring break for me. And if you take into consideration that I did indeed not go into school - it was. However, if you think of that time as being a “break” as in relaxing, refreshing, recharging it certainly was not. It was more of a spring run. A little like the desperation one might see in a salmon run- just without the sex. The week was spent madly working on the house, driving here, there and back. I DO have to say that in spite of not really getting any “rest” I did get to see and visit with some family members and friends and that was lovely.

The infamous remodel is progressing in spite of us. We have completed the ceiling patching, priming and painting-As well as the painting of both the living room and kitchen. Even though we used the same paint that I had painted the living room with before Chuck came home there is a distinct difference in color so I had to “feather” the paint to make it blend. It worked better in some spots than others. I also primed and painted at least two coats of white paint on the trim boards on the windows in both rooms. After we finished the painting we were able to take apart the scaffolding that has been on the stairways for over three weeks. We also cleaned up the carpet and put away some of the building stuff that we won’t be using for awhile. We put the loveseat over where it will be against the far wall and the room really is bigger (good thing or all this work would be for naught!).

Now we are waiting on the cabinet guy. We won’t start on the tiling or carpet or stair railing til he puts those in. He said 3 to 4 weeks. So, I figure 6 to 8. That seems to be the general rule of thumb with these construction workers. We do have the bedroom wall to finish as well as the walls and ceiling in the basement. So, it’s not like there isn’t anything to do while we wait…

I got to see Tyson and Angel on Thursday night. They are a lot of fun and seem to be managing quite well juggling working, schooling and “life”. I went to a Photoshop seminar in SLC on Thursday and tried to soak in something that will stay with me to teach in class. I bought some books to supplement as well. Now, if I could just find time to actually read or even look at said books it might be helpful.

Then on Saturday I drove up to Biose to see Brianne, Juan and baby Dominik. It was a lovely day and the ride wasn’t as boring as it could have been watching for signs of green and the end of winter. Brianne is doing very well and Dominik is a cutie! He is a very easy baby who only cries when he’s hungry, wet or poopy. And his cry isn’t all that ferocious either. He tends to make rumbling gastric and trumpeting baby elephant noises and then he drops off to sleep. It was lovely to see the happy lil family.

Now, it’s back to school to finish off the year. Basically 8 more weeks and it’s finito. I have a lot to cover in that time and two more art shows to enter student work. So, I guess I won’t be getting any of the rest and relaxation any time soon. The theory is that it keeps me out of trouble. Theory – only theory.
