What I did on my spring break...
Sounds like a prompt for an English essay doesn't it?
Well, we thought about going to Moab or Zion's to get some warmer weather.
And then Chuck reminded me how nice it was last year by the beach in Corpus.
And so we cashed in our flight miles and got two tickets to Texas and headed for the beach.
The first day we went on a tour of the battleship Lexington.
I took a billion photos, but will only post a thousand.
This was the entry to the ladies powder room...aka head.
Pretty sure they didn't have it painted that way when it was in use - or the park bench.
I found this info interesting.
The chow line reminds me of the cafeteria in the IF temple :0)
There were a lot of interesting stories posted throughout the ship.
It is so incredible the things that have been sacrificed and done to maintain liberty.
I HATE the dentist, but can NOT imagine having to have dental work done
in the bowels of a rolling ship.
It's one thing to see a battleship in the movies or on tv,
and even walking all over one it's hard to really take in just how big they are.
These are really big planes and they could have a LOT of them on board.
We also spent a lot of time on the beach.
And saw so many birds.
This was just one of many flocks of pelicans.
These little guys just cracked us up.
They scuttled around with their head all tucked into their necks
like they had a guilty conscience.
As if to say "It wasn't me! I didn't do it".
Plovers?
There were a lot of these black headed gulls.
And lots of sandpipers.
The weird thing was we saw quite a few birds with only one leg too.
The retirement spot for disabled seafowl?
There were a fair amount of jellyfish on the beach early in the morning.
Pretty to look at - from a distance.
Shell encrusted "things".
a random shark on the beach.
Fishermen.
Trying to catch these guys.
This guy was hauling in something big...
He really had to work to get it in.
When he finally did, it was a decent sized ray, which was kind of sad.
After a couple of days by ourselves the girls came out to spend some time with us.
They were excited to go to the pool.
Chloe remembered how to float.
Leyla, not so much.
Note the need for support.
They groom the beach every so often like we grade the roads in Idaho.
Note the flock of pelicans flying in formation in the sky.
The girls were great at finding shells.
And jellyfish.
Leyla had the biggest shell count.
And Chloe the biggest smile.
Chloe relaxed on the deck whilst putting her feet up eating watermelon.
And Leyla chowed down on some avocado - straight from the source.
Chloe gave a nice performance on her miniature violin.
Kelsey joined us later and we colored eggs for Easter.
As you can see it was pretty serious business and we had to call in the armed forces for support.
Yes, Chuck actually decorated several eggs and quite nicely I might add.
The end results were quite colorful.
We had a VERY relaxing, enjoyable time.
(though -Let me say that walking over four miles in flip flops is NOT a good idea.)
(though -Let me say that walking over four miles in flip flops is NOT a good idea.)
Just what we both needed.
Before we headed home to this...
This is the day of our arrival looking out the front window.
Welcome back to Idaho springtime.
The good thing was this brave little daffy showing it's face.
Oh, and check out the quality headline on the paper...
Nicely placed traffic cones eh?
Back to reality.

Best of all, those Texas girls are fun fun fun.
I'm so glad you got a real rest and some warm weather.
