Roatan Ramblings

Wednesday, March 24
Roatan, Honduras
37 miles long, 5 mile wide
Has the longest barrier reef in the Caribbean.
Here are some of the snapshots I took as we drove.
Note the colorful house paints and lush vegetation.
There are both private and public schools- though they all wear uniforms.
Convenience store Roatan style
.
Lots of colorful blooms.
Corner convenience.
Tourist and retiree condos.
Chuck gave me crap about taking photos of cows...
but hey, they don't look like Idaho cows do they?
Chillin teens.
John Edwards came down about 16 (?) years ago and bought up land cheap and since has developed the land extensively.
Sharp contrast to the local edifices.
Proud grandma. Some things are universal eh?
.
Kids hanging out by the "Country Club".
Our guide, Carla.
We told her we wanted to eat someplace off the beaten track.
Viola!
Bertie's Criolle Cuisine.
Not to be confused with Creole, as in New Orleans.
It has it's own Papaya growing on the premises.
As well as these lovely "pickled"? treats.
Our lunch was savory chicken, rice and beans, coleslaw and fried plantains.
Here's the proprietor Wille, fixin to chop up some papaya.
And here was my personal favorite part....
The restroom facilities.
Original artwork in marker and crayon. Sahweet!!!

The drawings on the restroom doors are so cute. Looks like it's a prety place to visit. Isn't that sad that there's a big difference betweenn modern and rural life? Enjoy watching your pictures.

Have fun,
Pei-I

That is one mile high plate full O food. Chuck must have been in food description heaven.

The bathroom signs are soo great!

Note that the Men's is plural, and singular Woman on the ladies....
too funny!

Glad you are back safe and you figured out the downloading thing.

I'm particularly curious about the private balcony.

Can't wait to see more.

Okay my first comment didn't save for some reason. Love the that the WOMAN is so much bigger than men. Speaking the language is always useful for getting behind the scenes. Great trip for you and Chuck. Look forward to more photos.

Wow. I like the cows. They look like they want to question you. Also love the restrooms art.
