So, yeah... 22 hour flatbread sounds kind of exotic or trendy, eh? In reality, not so much. I told Chuck I would make him some home made bread. I started it at about10:30 am on Saturday - perhaps I should interject here that it has been at least 7 or 8 years since I last attempted mom's bread. I called mom a couple of times to check on the recipe. And was a bit worried when I added the yeast and sugar and it didn't get all foamy like I remembered. Yeah, there was a reason for that. Apparently in my fervor to make sure I didn't get the water too cold, I got it too hot and mostly killed the yeast instead of activating it. I did manage to get a nice soft dough, but by 7pm the bread had only risen marginally. It did make some delicious grease cakes (scones for those of you not of my immediate family). I put the rest in pans and left it to rise. And by the time I went to bed at 12:30 and it still was no where near ready to go in the oven. Mom had told me to be patient and it would rise. When I got up on Sunday I had to decide whether to try and cook it then or wait 5 hours until church was over. I opted to cook it thinking it would rise a bit more in the oven. Wrong. I took it out just in time for us to head to church. It was DENSE and a bit doughy. It had a nice flavor. It actually makes great toast but not exactly the type of bread I expected. It seems that bread making is somewhat like my ability to kick over my head - better in my mind than in reality. Sigh...
We had a lovely rain storm yesterday and things have cooled down very nicely. It was really nice today with the smell of rain and damp fields in the valley. Check out this cool pic I got of some clouds. Reminded a little me of Van Gogh's starry night. Of course it looked better in reality but I think the picture's cool too.
Tyson and Angel were up for the weekend and it was sure fun to visit with them and catch up on things. We played a game, Kaboodle whichTyson won, using perhaps questionable/ creative tactics . They left this morning driving the Honda with new brake rotors that Chuck and Tyson installed on Saturday.
So back to school tomorrow. I hope this week is a little better than last. At least it is only 4 days instead of 5. I have all the students started on projects so hopefully that will help. And I got the report turned in for the second missing camera. That's right another of my school cameras has disappeared. It spent HOURS last week scouring both my rooms at school and looking at home thinking it had to be somewhere. Whoever took it was pretty sneaky and took the one in the camera case so I "thought" I had it and have no idea when it actually could have been taken. I now have a massive metal bar on my file cabinet and have to unlock two sets of locks before I can get out the remaining cameras.
So we'll see how the week goes....

Sorry about the bread...home baked bread is a real treat...but so are scones?! Your picture does bring to mind Van Gogh's Starry Night...it cooled off nicely over our way, as well...I'm ready for a bit cooler temps....have a good week!
That picture is pretty and sorry your bread didn't work out, at least it tasted good which is the important thing. And in case you didn't read my response, the Little Gym classes are 45 min long once a week for 20 weeks. I'm still thinking of enrolling him this winter so he can get out of the house and play with other little kids if I can save up enough money. Have a happy tues!
I never had success making bread. Mom always had to "fix" it when I did it. It always seemed to get tough. Aleta was the bread maker in the younger set--still is. I feel you pain though!
I was a good bread maker...... but Miste is right, Aleta has the field now.
I don't think I'll be headed down that road anytime.... ever.
I love that you waited sooo long. I would have chucked the next morning.
