First Gratitude Entry

Check out the manly new remote we just got! The theory is that we will be able to locate it when needed. We'll see about that,
I have started my gratitude list 3 times now and I keep getting interrupted or losing the list (hard to imagine I know). So, I decided to actually open a document on the computer this time (I haven’t misplaced the computer – yet). And let me just preface this with the disclaimer that this will not be incredibly original, or humorous, just what I feel.
#1 – Family – The newspaper had the “on the street” opinion section dedicated to “What are you grateful for this Thanksgiving? And every single person mentioned family. Everything that is good in my life involves family and people that I consider family. Families are the basic unit of life, and family ties, whether they be sibling, spouse, parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc. are vital to a healthy society and world.
I am so grateful for the parents who taught me to work, encouraged me to get an education and develop my talents. There are many other things I learned from them while growing up and in the ensuing years. They have been a source of knowledge, support, comfort and joy and continue to teach, listen and encourage whenever I need them.
I am thankful for Chuck, Charlie, Charles, no matter what you call him he is the BEST! He has always been supportive of me and patient (when I lose things or forget them or…). He encourages me to be my best self, has introduced me to hiking, backpacking, four wheeling and the wonders of the outdoors in a way that I had never experienced before we met. He goes out of his way to be thoughtful, whether it be making dinner or getting things to surprise me. He is hyper active, focused on his goals (no, I am not going to move to Alaska- visit yes, move no), considerate, generous to a fault, goofy, intelligent and in spite of no longer being willing to play word based games, a lot of fun to be around.
I am thankful for each of my 5 children. Each of them has brought new meaning and knowledge into my life, some in ways that I would definitely not have chosen, but have none the less made me a better person (I hope). Each has unique talents and capabilities, and is smart, fun, funny, and compassionate. I miss having them closer, but look forward to seeing them any chance I get. My goal is to be such an awesome grandma that they will have to move closer just to expose their children to their wacky grandma (and Chuck is no slouch in the grandpa department either, don’t let him tell you otherwise). And don’t even get me started about grandbabies – I am ridiculous! I admit it and can’t wait to have 10 or 20 more – it’s much easier when I’m not the one giving birth :0)
I love my siblings, all 7 of them. Once again, each has had an impact on my life and has contributed to my “learning experiences”. I don’t tell them often enough how important they are to me and how much I care for them, perhaps because for some of them monosyllabic conversations are about all they are comfortable with, especially if it deals with “emotions”. We are more of the “teasing type” but each of us knows it represents love. Each has unique gifts and talents and would do anything in defense and in support of family.
I am truly blessed. Ok, so that is just the first thing on my gratitude list and I didn’t even go into real detail. I guess I’ll try to do a couple more posts and touch on a few more of the things I’m grateful for, because there are a LOT!

If you lose that remote Karen all is lost. You may has well resign yourself to never finding anything again.
Enjoyed your grateful for family post. All those "good Learning experiences" do make us better, and it is nicer to go through them with family than non family.

I bet I could still lose that remote.

That was a very nice post. I too love family, which is why I'm willing to move back to the freezing cold northwest when I graduate. I miss my family! And my little girls need much more exposure to their wacky grandma.

We have pretty much like that too! We got if for Dennis last Christmas as a joke. It's hiding behind the TV. We haven't every actually used it.
Isn't it amazing all the wonderful things you learn from family?! I think that's why God set it up that way. There are so many, many things that you would never experience and learn without that experience. The most important thing is how to love--unconditionally. I'm thankful for my family too in all its varied aspects.
Who wouldn't want to know that wacky grandma better??

That pic is great! And family is the greatest thing in the world, even when they drive you nuts. I hope your only grandson can see you soon. Definitely around Christmas time. He's learned all sorts of things since the last time you saw him.

That remote is hilarious. Why is it so funny to have larger than usual things...maybe I am just easily amused but I laughed at loud at that remote.
