Retro Chair

Ok, so I have this really cool chair that I LOVE, but Chuck hates. It is a short little chair I got from Chuck's mom last year when they moved out of their house. I fits my short legged body perfectly and it rocks, and spins - when you sit in it, not by itself. (It's not possessed or anything). I think the main reason that Chuck hates it is because of the lovely lime-ish, yellowish green brocade it is covered in ( As shown above). So when Kelsey and Chloe were here I brought it up from the basement where it had been sitting all neglected and forlorn. It was perfect for rocking and reading to Chloe-AND it was the only chair that Kelsey could sit in that didn't hurt her back.

So, I got the brilliant idea that I could make a little slip cover so we could have it up in our new and improved living room. Genius, I know...

So, that's what I have been doing on and off for the last two days. The off part would be when I had to go into town multiple times to get stuff I forgot to get the previous time to complete the project. That part go REALLY old.

In order to really do it well, one would need to know how to disassemble the chair and then cover the parts and re-assemble it. I didn't do that.

So, the end result is definitely not a re-upholstery job, but it isn't exactly a slipcover either. It's slipholstery? or Upcovery? Whatever it is, I finished at 5 minutes before midnight last night. And if nothing else the material is very nice. The solid light, olivey green is some ultrasuede that I got on the clearance table and feels really smooth and nice. It looks more brown in the picture but it's really greenish.) .

I actually really liked the little tucked details on the back of the original chair, but as I said I wasn't about to take apart the chair and then try to figure out how to do that. I still want to be able to actually "use" the chair instead of having random torn apart pieces that I could never get to go back together. So, there is a loss of some details, but it IS quite comfy and I have another project that will actually be going along with it. If I get that done tomorrow I will post that as well. Oh, and note the new carpet... a bit of a change from the near black we had previously!

I have just one day to get the final project done, as I am on the last day and a 1/4 before I "get" to go back to work...sigh. It has been a fantastic summer, filled with lots of fun, friends and family and I didn't get a tenth done what I had planned. But, then I never do. But, I DID get a LOT done that I wanted to do. I JUST found the missing battery for my digital camera, now if I could find my lesson plan books that I brought home to work on...or even better, the missing in action watercolor of the iris that has been gone for over a year...sigh. Other than that, no real regrets- just a wish for more hours in the day.

Did I mention that Chuck caught a 206 pound halibut on his first day of fishing in Alaska? Yeah, so as I told Jenette we'll be getting all of our Omega 3 oils in for awhile. We'll be so oiled up, we'll have it puddling in our shoes. Right now he has over 100 pounds of processed fish ready to bring home. My guess is that it will end up being about 150 pounds after they finish their last day of fishing tomorrow. So, come on over and we'll throw a little salmon on the barby! Or halibut, or rock fish, or red snapper, or....

I have NO IDEA why I get the underlines on the text when I cut and paste? Weird eh?

I'm going to need to see a close-up of that floral material. It looks a little wacky in that picture, but I can't really see it very well either. So I'm going to request a close-up of the floral material and a picture of that new chair you told me about. Lookin good!

I think you are brave to try recovering your chair yourself. Thats on of the tasks on my list I never seem to get to. Good luck on all that fish.

I think you have done a great job! I am sure Chuck will think any covering is better than the original color of the chair but you have picked cute colors. Nice work!
